A Google Merchant ID is a number code assigned to each user who plans to sell a service or product and signs up for a Google Checkout merchant account. The Google Merchant ID is required for you to be able to create Google Checkout buttons and links for your website that visitors can click on to purchase your services or products. Continue reading to learn how to sign up for a Google Checkout merchant account and locate the Google Merchant ID in your profile.
STEPS INCLUDE:
1 Visit the Google Checkout merchant website listed in the Sources section of this article and click on the "Sign up now" button.
2 Designate whether or not you use Google AdWords or Gmail by selecting the appropriate radio button. If you select "yes," you will be given the option to use the Google username and password used for those accounts for your Google Checkout merchant account as well.
3 Create a new Google Checkout merchant account by providing your email address and typing a password into the corresponding fields.
4 Click on the "Create Account" button to proceed to the next page.
5 Verify that the Google Checkout merchant account you are creating belongs to you by selecting your country from the drop-down menu and providing Google with your telephone number. Depending on your preference, Google Checkout will either send you a text message or call you at this number to provide you with a verification code.
6 Click on the "Send verification code" button and wait for Google to call you or send you a text message.
7 Enter the verification code provided to you at your telephone by Google and click on the "Verify" button to complete the verification process and proceed to the following page.
8 Fill in the designated fields with your personal contact information, your public business information, financial information, and review the terms of service for Google Checkout. The information requested will include your address, phone number, business name and website, the type of services or products you offer, and credit information such as your social security number, tax identification number, or credit card details.
9 Click on the "Complete sign up" button to finish creating your Google Checkout merchant account.
10 Click on the "Settings" tab after Google Checkout has signed you in to your new merchant account.
11 Click on the "Integration" link under the Profiles section in the far left column.
12 Locate your 10- or 15-digit Google Merchant ID by looking for it on the far right below the Account Information section.
- Your Google Merchant ID can also be found in the upper-right corner of your Google Checkout merchant session any time you are logged in.
- Your Google Merchant Key can be found directly below your Merchant ID, and is used to secure and validate any communications you have with the Google website. The Google Merchant Key should be kept private at all times to protect the security of your account and must never be given to anybody, including representatives from Google.
